Position Summary


“Content strategy” has many meanings depending on who you ask. So this role and what we do at Third Rail deserves some explanation. We have decades of experience in helping clients understand how to best market their brand, products, and/or services to audiences in the digital space. The digital experiences we build range from complex “content hubs” with a wide variety of formats to single videos, articles, demos, infographics, emails, and more.


All of the assets we build must connect and support a strategic framework that is articulated and sold to our clients before creative development. Being well-versed in branding, positioning, messaging architecture, journey mapping, user stories, and agency creative briefs will be an expectation for this role. We work well with clients who have more complex storytelling needs, such as financial services, technology, energy, etc. We specialize in taking these complex stories and making them more understandable and shape them for easy consumption in various media channels.


This role will report directly to our Head of Accounts & Strategy and work closely with team leads across creative, interactive, and account service departments.


Key Responsibilities


  • Analyze qualitative research, quantitative metrics, keyword search analytics, and marketing reports to identify relevant insights to inform strategic recommendations
  • Lead ideation sessions with cross-functional internal and client teams
  • Make content strategy recommendations that support existing client brand/product positioning
  • Effectively “sell” strategic solutions to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams by articulating rationale in written and verbal environments
  • Assist and collaborate with Third Rail’s creative and interactive teams in the design and content development phases of projects to ensure deliverables stay on-strategy
  • Help inform information architecture, navigation and taxonomy, and user flows for interactive projects
  • Create content maps for web pages that outline key audience needs, messaging goals, and content hierarchy/depth to inform wireframing produced by the interactive team
  • Create editorial calendars and content roadmaps that support project goals and strategy
  • Conduct various types of content audits and gap analyses across multiple touchpoints that support project goals
  • Review client measurement and tracking systems, and recommend optimizations based on defined goals and strategy
  • Assess the existing strategic process and make recommendations for improvement
  • Personify, maintain and project agency core values

Qualifications


  • 3+ years of experience in a strategic role (preferably in a marketing or advertising capacity)
  • And/or 5+ years of experience creating and managing content across channels
  • Portfolio with key content strategy deliverables (e.g., content strategy deck, competitive analysis, content inventory and audit, content type mapping, brand voice and tone, content document) and other relevant examples (journey mapping, storytelling, prototypes, live sites)
